
2026 Apprenticeship program
This 2 day a week 36 week long program (Thurs and Friday 9am- 3pm )is limited to 6 students and is intended to further the woodworker committed to improving their knowledge in the craft.
This program offers an opportunity to learn from and work alongside a professional furniture maker with decades of experience in the woodworking industry
Overview of the content areas to be covered
Safe operation of all power tools in the shop- table saw, band saw, jointer, morticer ,shaper, mitre saw, lathe, sander
Maintenance and upkeep of all tools in the shop- all the above
Identifying the different types of wood
Methods of cutting, sanding and finishing
Joinery by machine and hand tools
Drafting and sketching for furniture- developing the concept and using the drafting table.
As part of the course each student will design and build a furniture pieceWorking with veneer- seaming, matching, adhesives
Inlay techniques and marquetry-stringing, embellishments, parquetry, pictures
Understanding finishes and the different types- methods of application of each
Identifying existing finishes and completing repairsUsing Adhesives the how and why- PVA, Urea, hide glue, cyanoacrylateThe business of woodworking- understanding overhead, pricing the product

Applicants must meet the following prerequisites :
Applicant must be able to follow written and verbal instruction and be physically capable of lifting materials weighing 50 lbs. Students must be capable to move and work safely in a shop equipped with professional power tools. Additional required competencies are the ability to use a tape measure, hand saw, chisel and be able to stand at a workbench for hours a day.
